2 women connected to robbery and attack of pregnant lady arrested, Clovis police say
Clovis officers arrested two more people related to the robbery and attack this month on a pregnant woman, police said Thursday.
Two women — 60-year-old Gloria Castaneda and 36-year-old Cecilia Castaneda, both of Fresno — were seen on surveillance cameras hours after the robbery March 18 using credit cards that belonged to the pregnant victim, police said.
They were booked into Fresno County Jail Wednesday on suspicion of identity theft and conspiracy related to the robbery, police said.
Neither of them were in custody Thursday, according to jail records.
The women are the mother and sister of Joey Tyler, 41, who along with 43-year-old Jose Garcia was accused of stealing the pregnant victim’s purse on March 18, according to police.
As they took the purse around 10 a.m. at the Shell gas station at Willow and Nees avenues, one of the men kicked her in the stomach, knocking her down, Clovis police said.
The vehicle the suspects fled in had been reported stolen less than an hour before the robbery, police said. Minutes after the robbery, the victim’s credit, and debit cards were already being used, which provided evidence for detectives.
As detectives arrested Tyler, he was still in possession of the stolen vehicle and the victim’s credit card, according to police.
Both men were booked into the Fresno County Jail on suspicion of robbery, assault with a deadly weapon and conspiracy.
Tyler was also on parole for another strong-armed robbery of a woman in 2013 when he stole her purse, police said. He was also booked for violating parole terms.
Tyler is held without bail and Garcia is held in lieu of $135,000 in bail, jail records show.
The pregnant woman did not appear to be seriously injured, police said, but she was treated at the scene by emergency personnel because of her potentially delicate state.
