Two men arrested in Fresno apartment explosion
Two men were arrested Tuesday night in connection with a suspected marijuana-cooking explosion that blew out an apartment window in east-central Fresno.
Police responded at 8 p.m. to the Summertree apartment complex at the southeast corner of Maple and Shields avenues, said Lt. Mike Doyle.
A man in his early 20s was seen fleeing the apartment and was later arrested. The man and the building smelled of chemicals, Doyle said, so a narcotics team was brought in. Detectives found drug paraphernalia and extensive damage to the kitchen area reflective of a honey oil operation. Cooking the oil, Doyle said, leaves a smell that sticks to the body.
Another man about 20 was also detained, and was taken to Community Regional Medical Center for burns to his arms and legs. He was in stable condition.
A woman living in the apartment above the explosion told police that she was eating at the dinner table with her 2-year-old son when the explosion happened, and that it lifted the table off of the floor.
Doyle said that both men will face felony charges.
