Gunfire exchanged near Fresno smoke shop, salon. One shot and one fled, police say
Officers were at the scene of a shooting in central Fresno where a 21-year-old man was struck by at least two bullets Wednesday, according to police.
Multiple ShotSpotter alerts came in just after 11 a.m. in the area of Shields Avenue and Channing Way near West Avenue, Capt. Rob Beckwith said.
Police said the victim and another man exchanged gunfire in a parking lot near a smoke shop and a salon before the victim ran north. He was shot in the lower body, police said.
The shooter fled the scene in a gray sedan, police said.
The investigation was in its early stages Wednesday so officers are still determining what led up to the shooting and if the men knew each other, Beckwith said. The victim was not cooperative with police, he said.
Officers had a section of Channing blocked while they investigated.
