Clovis SWAT team responds to domestic violence call. Here’s where police found suspect

A man was taken into custody in northeast Fresno on Wednesday afternoon after a SWAT team was called to a Clovis home Tuesday evening.

Clovis police said they received a call about a domestic disturbance that occurred in the 2000 block of Bedford Avenue. The accuser left the home and called police from another location, and met officers there.

Police learned that the suspect, identified as 26-year-old Jake Chavarria, of Fresno, was wanted on multiple domestic violence-related felonies and had a criminal history, and there was a gun in the Bedford Avenue home. A SWAT team was called and entered the home, only to find Chavarria had left.

Detectives said they followed up on known locations Chavarria might have visited, and he was located in northeast Fresno at a family member’s residence. He was taken into custody without incident, police said.

Chavarria was booked into the Fresno County Jail on several felonies, including corporal injury to a spouse/cohabitant, false imprisonment, child endangerment, terrorist threats, assault with a deadly weapon and kidnapping.

October is Domestic Violence Awareness Month, and Clovis police say that if you or someone you know is in need of assistance regarding domestic violence, call the Marjaree Mason Center at 559-233-4357 or law enforcement.
