Fresno woman indicted on federal mail and identity theft charges. Bail at $1 million

A woman who was arrested with thousands of pieces of stolen mail in August has been indicted on 10 counts of bank fraud and aggravated identity theft.

A federal grand jury indicted 34-year old Bobbi Jo Heiss of Fresno on Thursday, according to a statement from the Department of Justice sent Tuesday.

Over the course of a year, Heiss allegedly stole debit cards, checks, identity documents and other banking information that she used to cash checks, make purchases and open unauthorized lines of credit.

Actual and attempted loss during that time are estimated at $250,000, the Justice Department said.

When Clovis police arrested Heiss in August, they found thousands of pieces of mail from dozens of homes inside her apartment. She was out on bail at the time, according to new reports.

If convicted of bank fraud, Heiss faces up to 30 years in prison and a $1 million fine.

The aggravated identity theft charge has a mandatory, consecutive sentence of two years in prison with a fine of up to $250,000.
