Fresno police seek assailants who killed a senior citizen at a recycling center

Fresno police are seeking the public’s help in identifying two persons of interest who assaulted a 65-year-old man this month, resulting in his death.

The incident occurred on Oct. 2. When officers arrived on scene to a recycling center near B and San Benito streets in southwest Fresno, they learned the victim was involved in a minor argument with the suspect. The suspect had already assaulted a staff member at the recycling center, police said.

The suspect then assaulted the 65-year-old man, knocking him to the ground. The victim hit his head on the sidewalk and was hospitalized for his injuries, police said. Shortly afterward, he went into a coma.

The victim died from his injuries late Oct. 8. Three days later, the Fresno County Coroner’s Office ruled the death a homicide.

Fresno police investigators with the elder abuse unit obtained video of two persons of interest as they left the recycling center.

Fresno police detectives are seeking the public’s help in the investigation. Anyone with information can call Crime Stoppers at 559-498-7867 (STOP). Tipsters can also contact elder abuse Detective J. Overstreet at 559-621-6310 and reference Case No. 21-54108.
