Man in his 20s shot at a family gathering in Fresno. Police say it was a ‘chaotic scene’

A man in his 20s was shot several times Sunday night at a family gathering in southwest Fresno.

Fresno police Lt. Paul Cervantes said the shooting happened after 8:30 p.m. in the 2600 block of South Ivy Avenue, near Jensen and Elm avenues when a car pulled up outside a home and someone in the car started firing.

Police were alerted by their ShotSpotter electronic gunfire surveillance system of two separate shootings of five and 15 rounds.

First-arriving officers were met by a “chaotic scene” by the large family, Cervantes said.

EMS took the man to Community Regional Medical Center where he was listed in critical condition late Sunday.

Two homes were struck by gunfire and several shell casings were found.

Police didn’t immediately know what led up to the shooting or if it’s gang-related.

Monday, police said the victim was in stable condition, but was not cooperating with officers investigating the shooting.
