It started as early-morning party, now man is dead, woman wounded, Fresno police say

A house party early Wednesday ended with a Fresno man shot to death and a woman wounded, police reported.

The shooting took place at an apartment at San Joaquin and Modoc avenues in the southwest portion of the city, said Sgt. Jeff La Blue.

Officers were called to the scene about 5:38 a.m., where they found that the man had been struck by multiple bullets in the upper body. The victim, in his early 30s, was rushed to a hospital, where he died. The woman was shot once in a leg and was also taken to the hospital.

La Blue said the shootings took place after a series of arguments, and the incident does not appear to be gang-related.

It is the 37th homicide this year in Fresno, and the 10th in September.
