Police investigate fatal hit-and-run involving a grandfather with his granddaughter

Fresno police are investigating a deadly hit-and-run Saturday evening in central Fresno that occurred while a grandfather was spending time with his granddaughter.

It happened around 7:15 p.m. as a man was pushing his 4-year-old granddaughter in a stroller across the street at North Weber Avenue, near West Clinton Avenue.

A vehicle struck them, knocking the man to the street and bassinet with the child inside to the ground.

The man, whose identity and age was not immediately released, died after he was transported to Community Regional Medical Center, police Lt. Tim Tietjen said.

The girl suffered bumps and bruises but is OK, Tietjen said. Her mother was notified.

Few additional details were provided, but the vehicle suspected is described as dark-colored. It fled southbound on Weber, Tietjen said.

Police were canvassing the area for surveillance camera.
