Little girl shot at birthday party in southwest Fresno
A 5-year-old girl was shot during a birthday party Friday night in southwest Fresno.
Witnesses told officers that around 6 p.m. several occupants came out of a vehicle and got into an argument with people at a party, according to Fresno police. The party was held at an apartment complex near Delno and Hawes avenues.
Shots were fired soon after the argument.
The little girl, who police said was an unintended target, was shot in the leg and rushed to Community Regional Medical Center. She was in stable condition.
“She’s going to be fine,” Fresno police Lt. Bill Dooley said.
After the little girl was struck, her mother rushed the child to the hospital.
On their way there, the mother spotted police who were responding to the scene and flagged them down to help them get to CRMC.
No other people were shot but Dooley said two vehicles were struck.
The suspects remain on the loose.
Dooley said others at the party were not able to provide much of a description of the suspects since the shooting occurred “a distance away” from the birthday celebration.
It is unclear if the little girl was attending the party as a guest or was the one celebrating a birthday.
