Selma man booked after wild overnight chase involving helicopter
A Selma man was caught by officers early Saturday after leading authorities on a chase involving a police helicopter.
He was identified as Angel Jose Calderon, 25.
Chief Joe Gomez said his officers tried to pull Calderon over while Calderon was driving a red Honda near Rose and Highland avenues, but Calderon sped away after tying to strike an officer with the vehicle. Officers broke off pursuit for safety reasons, but as the vehicle neared Fowler, a Fresno police helicopter tracked the Honda. Police were able to stop Calderon by cutting off his car before he was able to enter a home with children nearby.
Calderon was booked on charges of battery on a police officer, felony pursuit, being a parolee at large and possession of methamphetamine.
