Robbery suspect arrested by police at apartment near Fresno State

A robbery suspect was taken into custody at an apartment near Fresno State on Thursday morning after several dozen police officers surrounded the area.

Police spokesman Jeff La Blue said the incident began as a disturbance at a doughnut shop at North Blackstone Avenue and East Shields Avenue just before 10 a.m. Police learned that the incident involved a robbery involving a firearm.

The department’s helicopter followed the suspect vehicle to the complex at Bulldog Lane and North Ninth Street, where police found the car still running with a door open as the suspect ran to a nearby unit. He surrendered about one-half hour later.

The suspect was not immediately identified.
