Fresno school employee arrested, accused of forcible rape of a minor, police say

A Fresno Unified School District employee was arrested Tuesday on suspicion of forcible sex with a minor, according to a Fresno Police Department news release.

Terry McCoy, 43, was booked on suspicion of two counts of lewd and lascivious acts with a child under the age of 14 and two counts of forceful sex penetration. He’s been an employee at Fresno Unified working as a noon time aide, according to police. McCoy was listed as a being involved as a basketball coach for the district’s 2020 elementary school league.

McCoy is also a group home counselor for troubled teens, according to police.

Police said McCoy “confessed to the allegations,” but did not elaborate.

Police did not immediately say whether the allegations were tied to McCoy’s work with schools or describe his relationship with the alleged victim.

McCoy, who worked for Fresno Unified since 2004, has been put on administrative leave, according to district officials.

“The recent arrest of a Fresno Unified employee is extremely disturbing and does not reflect the professional expectations we have for the adults in our system,” district officials said in an emailed statement to The Bee. “The District will support the Fresno Police Department in whatever way necessary as they continue to investigate the matter.”

Anyone with information is asked to contact the Fresno Police Department.
