Tulare County Sheriff’s Office investigating deadly shooting in Porterville

A man was shot fatally in in Porterville on Monday afternoon, the Tulare County Sheriff’s Office said.

Deputies were called to the 500 bock of East River Avenue just after 1 p.m. for a report of a drive-by shooting.

The victim, Arturo Vargas, was found with multiple gun shot wounds. He was taken to a local hospital, where he died. Ricard Villagomez was arrested a few days later for murder charges.

According to the Tulare County Sheriff’s Office, homicide detectives followed up on numerous tips in relation to the whereabouts of two suspects Julian Martinez and Mark Duran.

On Thursday night, Duran was arrested at a Visalia hotel. Detectives are still searching for Martinez
