Merced police arrest man who allegedly started dumpster fires

A man who police believe is responsible for multiple dumpster fires in Merced was arrested Tuesday.

Merced police booked Jeremy Paul Garcia, 33, in connection to two dumpster fires located near each other — one in 100th block of West 16th street and the other in the 200th block of the same street. Both locations were in proximity of businesses.

Merced police said Garcia admitted to lighting the fires. He was charged with two counts of arson, as well as attempted arson and resisting arrest.
