Armed juveniles take car at gunpoint in central Fresno; 4 arrested hours later

Four teens were arrested Tuesday afternoon in central Fresno several hours after a late-model Nissan SUV was taken at gunpoint nearby.

The robbery took place about noon at North Fruit and West Ashlan avenues, said Sgt. Jeff La Blue. The victim, who was driving a late-model black Nissan Rogue, reported that at least one of the bandits was armed.

Shortly before 4 p.m., detectives spotted the Nissan near West Shaw and North Holt avenues. A patrol vehicle attempted to pull it over near West Emerson and North West avenues, according to Sgt. Doug Goertzen.

The car sped away, but yielded to officers near North Weber and West Princeton avenues, where the teens were taken into custody. Goertzen said they will likely face armed robbery and other charges.

A postal worker found a handgun near the suspects’ attempted escape route and police were examining it to see if it was used in the carjacking.
