Driver wounded in late-night shooting on 99 in Fresno

The California Highway Patrol is investigating a shooting after a man was wounded late Sunday night on Highway 99 near Oliver Avenue.

CHP spokesman Mike Salas said the driver was southbound about 10:45 p.m. in the middle lane when another car pulled up on the left and fired at least one shot.

The 33-year-old victim pulled to the right shoulder just north of Belmont Avenue and called 911. He was rushed to Community Regional Medical Center and is expected to survive.

The gunman is believed to have taken eastbound Highway 180 and may have been involved in a multi-car crash near Blackstone Avenue. The occupants fled the car and ran. The gun and suspects have not been found. Anyone with information is asked to call the Fresno CHP at 559-262-0400.
