Thieves hitting Dick’s stores in Clovis and Fresno caught red-handed, police say
A group of thieves stole thousands of dollars of items from the Dick’s Sporting Goods store in Clovis, police said.
They hit the place five times this month, walking out with Nike clothing worth a total of about $14,000. The crew of three to four people is suspected in the Clovis crimes as well as similar thefts at the Dick’s stores in Fresno, police said.
Fresno residents Schirell Cummings, 19, Michael Ivory, 18, and a 16-year-old were arrested Wednesday by Clovis police as they walked out carrying $3,800 worth of merchandise without paying. Detectives watched the crime unfold on surveillance cameras.
The crew members face charges of looting and conspiracy to commit a crime. Cummings and Ivory were booked into the Fresno County Jail and later posted bail. The 16-year-old was cited and released to a guardian.
Detectives served a search warrant in the 3000 block of North Hughes Avenue in central Fresno and found evidence related to the thefts, police said.
A parole search also was conducted in the 900 block of East Grove Avenue in southwest Fresno and investigators found an AR-15 reported stolen out of Fresno.
Clovis detectives are working with police in Fresno, where there have been similar thefts at the Dick’s Sporting Goods location in River Park and on West Shaw Avenue. Police said the same group that targeted the Clovis store is suspected in the Fresno thefts.
The investigation is ongoing.
