Multiple shots fired near busy Fresno intersection, striking vehicle with infant inside
Occupants in two cars exchanged gunfire Saturday night near a busy intersection in central Fresno and unintentionally struck another vehicle with a family inside, including an infant.
It happened around 7:45 p.m. near Blackstone and Shields avenues.
Fresno police Lt. Bill Dooley said officers received a ShotSpotter activation that 25 rounds were fired. Witnesses said the occupants in the two cars got into an argument, with one possibly throwing a bottle at the other.
The argument escalated to shooting and another vehicle carrying a family of six, including an infant, was struck twice.
That family managed to escape the scene without injury.
All of the shooting suspects left injury-free, too.
Police eventually detained three people, including a man in his 30s who tried to hide from officers in a residential area near Wishon and Ashlan avenues. He then attempted to fight off a police dog before his arrest, Dooley said.
Two others, a passenger in the car with the suspect and the driver of the car, were detained and questioned.
A firearm that’s believed to have been used in the shooting also was found.
