Man shot waiting for pizza in Fresno. Suspects caught blocks away

Fresno Bee

A man was shot while waiting for a pizza in east-central Fresno on Sunday night, police said.

According to Lt. Anthony Dewall, the shooting happened around 7 p.m. at the northeast corner of Olive and Cedar avenues where officers found a victim with two non-life threatening gunshot wounds to his hip and leg area.

The victim told officers he was in his car outside of a pizza restaurant waiting for his food when he was approached by two men who opened fire.

The two men then got in their car and fled. Soon after officers arrived at the shooting scene, police received reports of a traffic collision in the area of Turner and Cedar avenues that they believe was related. Witnesses there told officers that two men in a car hit a parked vehicle and kept driving.

Police got reports of another sighting and officers arrested the two suspects in the area of Barton and Thomas avenues, just south of the shooting scene and across Highway 180. The suspects were found in the car described by witnesses and had evidence of the shooting.

Dewall said investigators believe both suspects are involved in gangs. The men were not identified.
