A Selma police officer was taken to the hospital for injuries early Monday after he was injured in a fight with a bicyclist riding on the wrong side of the road while drinking alcohol, Chief Joe Gomez reported.

Arrested was Jason Rosetti, 42, on charges of possession of cocaine and methamphetamine, resisting arrest, battery on a police officer and other charges.

Gomez said a patrol officer made a traffic stop on Rosetti after he was seen riding near McCall Avenue and Gaither Street with no light and carrying the open alcoholic beverage. Rosetti reportedly refused to stop, and when the officer attempted to place Rosetti in a control hold, Rosetti resisted.

Another officer arrived, but Rosetti resisted again, and pulled away. As additional officers arrived, Rosetti was taken to the ground and a Taser was used to subdue him.

One officer suffered injuries to his face, eye and knee. Rosetti was also taken to the hospital for an evaluation.
