Man shot in the chest in central Fresno dies, police say

A man in his 20s who was shot in the chest Tuesday died from his injuries, Fresno police said.

Around 10 p.m., police received multiple 911 calls from the area of the 900 block of North Farris Avenue, south of Olive Avenue and west of Palm Avenue.

Witnesses told police they heard shots and vehicles leaving at a high rate of speed and saw people running.

Later, police learned that a shooting victim, identified as 24-year-old David Garcia of Fresno, was dropped off at Community Regional Medical Center.

Garcia was rushed into surgery, but succumbed to his injuries.

Wednesday, Sgt. Jeff La Blue said the shooting may have been gang-related.
