Second suspect arrested and gun recovered day after high-speed chase in central Fresno

Fresno County Sheriff’s detectives have a second suspect in custody following a high-speed pursuit though the Fresno High area Thursday night, and a gun possibly tossed from the speeding car has been recovered.

More the a dozen deputies and Fresno police officers were involved in a search for the suspect near North Ferger and East Cambridge avenues. Sheriff’s spokesman Tony Botti said the incident began about 9:30 p.m. Thursday night, when MAGEC anti-gang detectives attempted to make a traffic stop on suspects in an ongoing investigation near North Palm Avenue east Fountain Way when the driver sped away. Both the driver and a passenger ran from the car on Cambridge, and the passenger was apprehended nearby. The driver eluded searchers. Friday, Botti said detectives arrested a man believed to be the driver.

A search was unsuccessful Thursday night for a weapon that detectives believed might have been thrown from the speeding car during the pursuit. Botti said that Friday morning, a neighbor taking a walk in the 2700 block of North Farris Avenue noticed a gun laying the grass of a home and called police. The Glock pistol was recovered by Fresno police and turned over to the deputies.

Botti said that the names of the suspects would not be released pending a conclusion of the investigation.
