8-year-old girl, mother remain hospitalized after stabbings, Hanford police say

UPDATE: On Thursday, Hanford police Lt. Greg Freiner said the girl and mom are doing better, but they’re still in the hospital.

---

An 8-year-old girl was in critical condition at a Visalia hospital after she was stabbed multiple times Tuesday by a man believed to be the girl’s stepfather.

Hanford police found the 8-year-old and her mother, who was also stabbed in the face, after a neighbor called police to report the incident. It happened just after 11 a.m. on the 500 block of East Florinda Street.

Chief Parker Sever said police were still trying to determine what led to the stabbing. He said the suspect, Alejandro Sanchez, who is in his 30s, was arrested and was in custody.

The girl and mother were taken to Kaweah Delta Medical Center. The mother was stable. Police said the girl had stab wounds around her body.
