Merced man killed, another man wounded in shooting outside rural Madera County house party

Gunmen ambushed two men sitting in a parked car outside a Madera County house party early Saturday morning, killing one and wounding the other, the sheriff’s office reported.

Kelly Malik Dupree, 18, of Merced died at the scene, the sheriff’s office said in a Facebook post. Dupree had been shot multiple times. The other victim was not identified but the sheriff’s office said he was taken to a hospital and treated for non-life-threatening wounds.

The incident happened around 12:40 a.m. in the 14000 block of Avenue 20, southwest of Chowchilla. At about the same time, the wounded victim was brought into the Chowchilla Police Department.

According to the sheriff’s office, witnesses say there may have been two or more shooters, believed to be male, wearing dark clothing. It is believed that they had a getaway vehicle parked nearby.
