Tulare police ID homicide victim in gang-related shooting. Suspect remains at large
Tulare police on Thursday identified the victim of a fatal shooting that occurred the night before during a celebration of life as officers continue to investigate.
The shooting killed one man, Demetirus Perry-Jones, 23, of Tulare, police said in a news release.
Five others suffered injuries from the shooting.
A 7-year-old girl who was critically wounded by multiple gunshots remained stable on Thursday. She was transported from the scene to Valley Children’s Hospital on Wednesday and remained hospitalized on Thursday.
Two 26-year-old women also suffered from gunshot wounds. Their injuries were not life-threatening, and they were treated at a hospital and later released.
Two men, ages 25 and 32, also were shot. Their injuries were not life-threatening, and they also were treated at a hospital and later released.
Police arrived Wednesday night to a chaotic scene with people running in every direction and searching for family members. The shooting occurred about 10:30 p.m. at an apartment complex near Tulare Avenue and I Street, across from a skate park.
The suspect appeared to be alone. Police believe the shooting was a gang-related “crime of opportunity” but have not released any information about the suspect.
Homicide detectives continue to investigate.
