Officer finds loaded gun after arresting Fresno teen smoking marijuana while driving

A Fresno teen was arrested Tuesday, initially spotted smoking marijuana while driving before an officer found a loaded gun inside the boy’s car.

According to the Fresno County Sheriff’s Department, one of their sergeants observed a black BMW speeding on Golden State Blvd in northwest Fresno before the vehicle stopped at a traffic light at Shaw Avenue.

Fresno County Sheriff’s said that’s when the officer noticed the 16-year-old roll down his window and blow smoke outside. The sergeant also recognized the smell of weed and proceeded to pull over the teen.

The deputy found a loaded .40 caliber handgun, approximately a quarter pound of marijuana that was packaged for sale, several vape devices and cartridges that contain both nicotine and THC.

The teen was arrested and booked into juvenile hall. He faces a felony charge for being a minor in possession of a gun and misdemeanor charges for possessing the marijuana and e-cigarettes.

The boy’s mom responded to the scene to pickup the car.

It is against the law in Fresno County to be in possession, plant, cultivate, harvest, dry or process marijuana.
