Man shot in upper body while walking at night in a Fresno neighborhood, police say
A man who was walking along a residential street in southeast Fresno was shot Friday night.
A California Highway Patrol helicopter was the first law enforcement to arrive around 9 p.m. to the area of Thomas Avenue and Second Street after ShotSpotter detected gunshots just south of Highway 180, said Fresno police Lt. Anthony DeWall.
The CHP helicopter hovered overhead as officers found the victim, described as being in his late teens or early 20s, with two gunshot wounds to his upper body.
He was conscious and breathing, and taken to Community Regional Medical Center.
DeWall said the man was walking east on Thomas when two suspects approached him and chased him before one shot him.
A rapid succession of gunshots was recorded by ShotSpotter.
Police currently have little information on the suspects but are investigating the situation, DeWall said.
Anyone with information can call the Fresno Police Department at 559-621-7000.
