Caruthers woman sentenced in animal cruelty case involving injured pit bull
A Caruthers woman pleaded guilty to felony charges Monday to animal cruelty and neglect charges in a case involving an emaciated pit bull.
The sentencing for Arliana Mora was suspended for once year and will be able to have the charges reduced to a misdemeanor if she attends education classes, according to Walter Salvari of the Central California SPCA.
The case was reported in August 2017 after an animal control officer found the dog, named Patron, who had been run over in a driveway in Caruthers. Mora said she knew that Patron was sick and injured, but that she did not have the money to care for him.
Salvari said the animal had been suffering for an extended time. The injuries included broken teeth, dog bite wounds, and a broken leg. He was also malnourished and dehydrated. After he was examined by the agency, it was determined he would not recover, and was euthanized.
