Suspect arrested in killing of Tulare County mother found dead near Mexican border

A wanted suspect in the killing of a Tulare County mother of four who was found dead near the Mexican border was arrested in Mexico on Thursday.

Adel Hussein, 44, was arrested on suspicion of murdering Brittney Steenbergen of Plainview. He was captured in a Mexicali motel by U.S. Marshals, the Imperial County Sheriff’s Office and Mexican authorities, the Tulare County Sheriff’s Office announced.

Hussein was being held at the Imperial County Sheriff’s Office. Tulare County homicide investigators were on their way to Imperial County on Thursday afternoon to help with the investigation.

Hussein was previously described as Steenbergen’s estranged boyfriend. Steenbergen’s body was found New Year’s Day in a rural part of Imperial County.
