The California Highway Patrol was investigating a fatal Monday morning crash in central Fresno in which a man suspected of being under the influence of drugs died.

The man was identified as a 44-year-old from Selma. His name was not relased pending notification of family.
CHP spokesman Mike Salas said the driver was westbound on Clinton at a high rate of speed when he crossed into the eastbound lanes of the roadway and smashed into a parked car. The impact launched the second vehicle several hundred feet and it came to rest int the front yard of a house, narrowly missing the structure. Additional details about why the man was believed to be under the influence were not immediately available..
Eastbound lanes of Clinton were heavily congested as the CHP closed the right lane of Clinton for the investigation.
Salas said there was morning fog but it didn’t appear to be a factor.
