17-year-old student arrested for threatening to ‘shoot up’ high school, Lemoore police say

A 17-year-old male student has been arrested after allegedly making threats to “shoot up” a high school in Lemoore.

Authorities at Jamison High School were alerted to the threat just after noon Wednesday and attempted to find the student, who was no longer on campus, according to a news release from the Lemoore Police Department.

Police then went to the suspect’s home, where they conducted a search for guns or other evidence that the threat was going to be carried out. They found neither.

The department sent word to other law enforcement agencies in the area to be on the lookout, and the suspect was apprehended in Hanford about 12 hours later. The student was booked in the Kings County Juvenile Detention Center on suspicion of making criminal threats. Police are not releasing his identity.

These kind of threats must be taken seriously and “those who make threats will be arrested, regardless of actual intent to carry out that threat,” the department said in the news release.
