What police call a “beer run” went bad for three men in Madera on Wednesday night after the trio crashed into a brick wall, officers reported.

Police said the incident took place after Efraen Hernandez, Gerardo Ruiz and Kevin Mendez took the beer from the AM-PM store on East Yosemite Avenue and tried to drive away fast.

They crashed into the wall at Pine and Fourth Street and ran, but were taken into custody a short time later. Hernandez was driving, police reported, and he was also booked on charges of driving under the influence.
