Police chase near Fresno City College leads to four-car crash, then a robbery attempt

How’s this for a wacky robbery attempt.

Naymond Trotter allegedly was involved in a four-vehicle accident Wednesday in central Fresno, then went on to try to rob a nearby 7-Eleven, according to Lt. Bill Dooley of the Fresno Police Department.

But instead of demanding for the cash out of the register, the 33-year-old suspect attempted to remove the bolted-down cash register, Dooley said.

He was unsuccessful in prying the cash register free, but would it have mattered? Trotter didn’t have a getaway car to help him transport the register, because the vehicle he had been in was involved in the accident and he left the scene by foot.

Trotter eventually was arrested for attempted robbery and fleeing police. He was a passenger in the vehicle, which was reported stolen.

The driver of the stolen vehicle, a female, was taken to a local hospital and placed in police custody.

The incident began when a State Center Community College District police officer chased after Trotter and the female driver just a few blocks east of the Fresno City College campus.

The crash occurred near McKinley Avenue and the Highway 41 underpass. Police said several people were hurt in the crash.

Trotter was on parole for burglary, though it’s unclear if police knew that prior to their pursuit.
