Shots fired at Cherry Avenue Auction, Fresno County deputies say

Shots rang out Saturday afternoon at a packed Cherry Avenue Auction just north of Easton, causing fearful attendees to flee.

Fresno County Sheriff’s Lt. Brent Stalker said it appears no one was hurt.

Deputies and Officers from the California Highway Patrol responded to the scene around 1:30 p.m. after calls of shots fired were placed to dispatch.

The shooting happened near a cluster of vending booths. “It’s a miracle that nobody got hit,” Stalker said.

Deputies believe a handgun was used in the incident, and investigators found a shell casing.

Deputies are investigating where there is surveillance footage of the incident.

Attendees were told to clear the area after the shooting, and traffic slowed down to a trickle as people departed.

No suspects are in custody, although deputies believe there was one shooter, and possibly two to four people involved.

Stalker said it appears a fight broke out beforehand. “Once the fight broke out, somebody who wasn’t actually directly involved in the fight, we believe, actually shot a round off,” he said.

Witness Mireya Lopez of Visalia told The Bee the shots were apparently fired at the ground, but not at a particular person.
