Fresno police warn residents about new telephone scam
The Fresno Police Department is warning residents of a phone scam in which scammers pose as Fresno officers in an effort to steal personal information from victims.
Police say several residents have received calls from a male voice identifying himself as a Fresno Police Department employee. The voice says it is urgent the resident contact police and gives the person a phone number to call.
When the phone number is called, a recorded message attempts to obtain personal information from the caller.
Police said they do not make unsolicited calls to residents to obtain personal information.
Anyone who receives a call similar to this one can report the incident online or by calling police at 559-621-7000.
