Hanford police rescue dog caught in burning home
Police officers responding to a house fire rescued a dog caught in a burning home, the Hanford Fire Department said Thursday.
About 12:30 p.m. Wednesday, the fire department was notified about smoke coming from the home in the 1300 block of Douty Street and the fire detector sounding.
Firefighters were on another incident, so the Kings County Fire Department was called on mutual aid.
Police arrived at the home and saw movement through a window. They broke out the glass and got the dog through the window to safety, the fire department said.
Firefighters put out the fire, which was contained to the kitchen. No one was home at the time and the cause of the fire was accidental.
The fire caused about $17,000 in damage to the structure and $5,000 in damage to contents.
