A man was left in critical condition Saturday night after he was shot once in central Fresno.

According to police, officers responded to an apartment complex in the 3300 block of North Marks Avenue for reports of a disturbance. When officers got there, they found a man near a car suffering from a single gunshot wound to the upper torso.

He was taken to Community Regional Medical Center where he was expected to undergo surgery. His condition was not known Sunday morning. Police did not immediately release his identity.

The shooting may have stemmed from a brief argument, but police aren’t sure who pulled the trigger. The few witnesses in the area were not forthcoming with information, according to police on scene. Nobody had been arrested by the end of the night.

Police were only told a man wearing dark clothing was seen running from the complex soon after the shot was fired. The shooting happened just before 10 p.m.
