A couple was arrested after kidnapping a 6-month-old baby from Selma, according to police Sgt. Terry Reid.

The baby was returned unharmed to his mother Tuesday morning, almost a day after the alleged kidnapping.

Police said the mother’s ex-boyfriend, Michael Dean Flores, 29, attempted to reconcile with her on Monday, and took the baby. Flores is not the baby’s father and did not have any parental rights, Reid said.

Flores told the mother he was going to get food, but never returned with the baby, Reid said.

The mother called police around 4 p.m. Monday to report the kidnapping and police worked throughout the night to find the baby. Flores periodically texted the mother, which helped police eventually find his location.

Around 9 a.m. Tuesday morning, Flores and his current girlfriend, Carmen Morales, 41, were found with the baby at the McDonald’s on Blackstone and Shields avenues in Fresno.

The couple was arrested on suspicion of kidnapping.
