FBI, Fresno police take down man in alleged murder plot

Fresno police and FBI officers on Thursday arrested a man on a federal charge of conspiracy to commit murder after a police vehicle collided with the suspect’s truck in central Fresno.

The suspect was identified as Jorge Jaso, 26.

Lt. Mark Hudson said police MAGEC gang officers and the FBI agents were conducting surveillance near Ashlan Avenue and Highway 41 when Jaso was seen driving away in a white pickup truck. An officer drove alongside the pickup, and a collision occurred moments later, Hudson said.

There was a semi-automatic assault rifle in the truck and one of the three people inside the vehicle with Jaso was carrying a handgun, Hudson said. Jaso sustained minor injuries in the crash and was taken to a hospital to be checked out. None of the officers were hurt and neither were the others in Jaso’s pickup, Hudson said.

Hudson said he did not have details about the federal charge against Jaso. The three other people in Jaso’s truck were being detained but it hadn’t determined what charges, if any, they would face, Hudson said.
