Madera Police Department is reminding the public about the dangers of drinking and driving, after a woman was found to be three times over the legal alcohol limit Saturday while she was behind the wheel.

That driver, Brianna Cruz, might have avoided an officer’s attention, but she was spotted driving without her headlights. At that point, an officer quickly made a U-turn to follow Cruz, but what happened next was even worse.

A Facebook video posted Saturday morning shows the moment Cruz slammed into a car stopped at the intersection of Lake and Sixth streets just as the officer had turned on his patrol car’s emergency overhead lights. The crash scattered debris on the roadway.

Police say the driver of the car that was hit was not injured. Police have not said what happened to Cruz.
