Two rifles, handgun seized in Fresno traffic stops, police report
Fresno police seized a .30-30 lever-action rifle, a .30-06 bolt action rifle, and a 9 mm handgun during traffic stops Monday in southeast and southwest Fresno. Police say the seizures are among several hundred firearms taken off the streets since the beginning of 2018.
The rifles were recovered when officers pulled over a car carrying six people near North Cedar and East Tulare avenues. An officer noticed a rifle barrel in the rear cargo area of the Ford SUV, according to Sgt. Adrian Alvarez Sr., and found the loaded Winchester along with the other weapon.
Alvarez said a passenger, identified as Evelyn Rodriguez, reported that she bought the weapon “off the street” for personal protection. Rodriguez was booked on weapons charges, and alleged gang member Ramon Robertson was arrested on felony warrants. Another alleged gang member, Briana Bergman, was arrested on a probation violations.
In southwest Fresno, Sgt. Ignacio Ruiz said officers made a traffic stop at East Oleander and South Pickford avenues and found that the driver, Jacaree Fisher, 18, did not have a driver’s license in his possession and provided a false name. When he opened the glovebox, officers saw that it contained 9 mm pistol. Fisher and Donta Young, 20, on parole for a prior robbery conviction, were booked into Fresno County Jail.
