Five boys were arrested after assaulting and attempting to rob a man in southwest Fresno early Tuesday, according to police.

The 54-year-old man was allegedly stunned with a Taser, pulled out of his vehicle and hit with a valve box before the boys allegedly searched through his pockets. They didn’t find anything, police said in a press release.

Officers arrived to the Summer Hill Apartments at 2150 S. Elm St. just after midnight and the boys ran in different directions, Sgt. Glen Schafer said. A perimeter was set up around Elm and Revend Chester Riggins Avenue and the police helicopter was called in.

One by one, officers found the boys, who tried hiding in backyards, stores and in garbage cans, Schafer said.

All were booked into Fresno County Juvenile Hall on suspicion of attempted robbery and assault with a deadly weapon.
