A man was killed in a shooting in east-central Fresno on Friday night, according to police Lt. Bill Dooley.

Police responded just before 7 p.m. to the 1200 block of North Sylmar Avenue for an open-line 911 call where commotion could be heard in the background. Police found shell casings outside.

Before police arrived, a man in his 20s was driven to Community Regional Medical Center by a friend. The man was pronounced dead at the hospital.

Witnesses are cooperating but no suspect has been identified. The neighborhood is not known to have ongoing crime issues, Dooley said.

Police did not release where or how many times the man was shot. Police said it is not known if the shooting was gang-related.
