Sixteen students at Edison High were detained Thursday for questioning after several fights broke out at the school, Fresno police said.
The fights broke out about 3 p.m. in the quad area, Lt. Mark Hudson said.
The student resource officer on campus called for assistance and 15 officers showed up. The MAGEC anti-gang unite also went to campus to see if there was gang involvement, but why the fighting started is not yet known, Hudson said.
About 100 students were standing around watching the fighting but were not involved, Hudson said.

The 16 students are being questioned “to figure out who started it,” Hudson said.
One student suffered a minor injury and was treated by an ambulance crew, he said.
