Police release images of Fresno bank robber punked by exploding dye pack

Fresno police are asking for the public’s help in finding a bank robber who has several tattoos on his face and head, and who may have red dye on him from an exploding dye pack.

Police on Tuesday released a photo of the suspect, which is not distinct enough to show the tattoos very well, and a picture of his getaway car.

About 10:38 a.m. Friday, officers from northwest patrol units responded to the BBVA Compass Bank at 1015 W. Shaw Ave. regarding a bank robbery.

The suspect was described as a Hispanic male, 30 to 40 years old, with a stocky build and black mustache. He was last seen wearing a black shirt, black pants and a California bear logo ball cap.

He approached the bank teller and handed over a note asking for the money in the top drawer and mentioned that he was armed.

The teller handed the money from the cash drawer and “bait money” with a red dye pack. He walked out with an undisclosed amount of cash and got into the front passenger seat of a gray 2012 or 2013 Chrysler 200.

The dye pack went off before the car could make it out of the parking lot. The car was last seen going southbound on Palm Avenue from Shaw.

Anyone with information is asked to call Detective Blancas at 559-621-2083, or Crime Stoppers at 559-498-7867.
