Fresno police Tuesday issued a new plea for help solving the shooting death of a 17-year-old gunned down in April in southwest Fresno.

Lt. David Madrigal said that Devote Divine has no gang ties and was simply walking home with a friend when shooters in a car killed him on a Sunday, April 29.

A ShotSpotter alert system recorded 24 shots fired near California and Thorne about 10:23 a.m., and arriving officers found Devonte near Fresno Street and California.

He had sustained multiple gunshot wounds and died that night at a hospital. Madrigal said Devonte was shot in the back with a high-caliber rifle and officers also recovered handgun shell casings at the scene.

Anyone with information about Devonte’s killers is asked to call detectives Bartlett Ledbetter at 559-621-2446, Ben Barnes at 559-621-2446 or Crime Stoppers at 559-498-7867.
