For Halloween, he was a stick-up man. But victim was a Fresno deputy, police say
A man who decided to be a hold-up man on Halloween was arrested Wednesday morning after he tried to rob a sheriff’s deputy in downtown Fresno, police say.
The aborted robbery took place about 8 a.m. across from City Hall at Fresno and P streets. David King, 46 was identified as the man booked on armed robbery charges.
Police Lt. Mark Hudson said the incident began as two deputies were headed to work at sheriff’s headquarters. One of the deputies, unarmed, was wearing his uniform pants, but not his uniform shirt when he was approached by King, who said, “what-a-you got?”
King reportedly raised his shirt, showing what appeared to be the butt of a handgun. A struggle began and the second deputy, who was armed, came to the aid of his coworker and King was subdued.
Arriving police officers took over the case because the area is under police jurisdiction, and King was booked into Fresno County Jail.
