Shooting near Dinuba leaves 1 farmworker dead, 2 hurt

A farmworker was found dead and two others suffered gunshot wounds south of Dinuba on Wednesday morning.

Megan Rapozo, spokeswoman for the Tulare County Sheriff’s Department, said the deputies responded to a report of a disturbance involving gunshots around 9:45 a.m. in the area of Avenue 400 and Road 74. One man was found dead, and two injured men were transported to local hospitals. The men were not named and the extent of injuries was not released.

An investigation showed the three were in an orchard as part of a farm labor crew picking fruit. The cause of the altercation is not yet known.

Rapozo said one person was detained, but investigators are still working to determine if he is a suspect.
