Man hospitalized after southwest Fresno shooting

A 28-year-old man was hospitalized Tuesday after he was shot in the leg in southwest Fresno.

The shooting took place about 11:30 a.m. at Whitesbridge Road and Thorne Avenue. Sgt. Carlos Frausto said the victim sustained non-life-threatening injuries.

The victim was walking with a female companion on Thorne north of Whitesbridge when he was confronted by three men in a white Ford Mustang or Pontiac Grand Prix from the 1990s. Frausto said the man exchanged words with the three and one of the men in the back of the car pulled out a small-caliber weapon and shot him in the lower leg. The victim and his companion went to a nearby market to call police.

Frausto said it isn’t known whether the shooting was gang related.
